Toy library wins $15,000 grant

Ocean Grove families will be the big winners from a new $15,000 grant to improve Ocean Grove Toy Library.

The volunteer community organisation secured the money as part of Carlisle Homes’ most recent round of community grants.

It will be used to transform the toy library’s current space at the Boorai Centre and expand its range of quality, educational and fun toys.

Toy library co-ordinator Yvette Anderson said shelving and display changes, new storage containers and toys would be rolled out over the next four months.

"This grant will transform the space we have at the Boorai and make it a more functional, spacious and smooth design filled with amazing toys and fun for little ones," Mrs Anderson said.

Our committee have some big ideas and we have a big surprise to be announced over the next four months. Come along and join us for what will be the most exciting year ahead.

She thanked Carlisle Homes for awarding the toy library the second highest grant in the current round and Ocean Grove businesses and community members who voted for the grant proposal.

The toy library is a non profit organisation that offers families the opportunity to borrow hundreds of toys, games and puzzles for a low annual membership fee. It serves people in Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, Wallington and surrounding areas.

The service recently expanded its opening hours to three sessions per week and also offers a party pack and marquee hire.

Carlisle Homes said it was overwhelmed with the standard and quantity of grant applications it received. It said the grants were an opportunity to contribute to the building of strong communities and enrich the lives of those living there.
